Title:On the physical meaning of the 'large' and 'small' components of the Dirac bispinor
View PDFAbstract:We show that solving the stationary Dirac equation with an electric scalar potential is reduced to solving the Schrödinger equation for two quasiparticles with effective masses that contain information about the Lorentzian symmetry of the four-dimensional space-time. This implies a new interpretation of the 'large' and 'small' components of the Dirac bispinor where both these components refer now to a Dirac particle (or both refer to a Dirac antiparticle). Mixing of the particle and antiparticle states is prohibited. On this basis we discuss the paradoxical phenomena of Zitterbewegung and the Klein tunneling.
