TFT98 Summer School on Thermal Field Theory

For those who wanted to get some basic background in thermal physics, prior to the TFT98 workshop, on Wednesday - Friday, Aug. 5-7, 1998, a small Summer School was held at the University of Regensburg to serve as an introduction to thermal field theory. The lecturers and topics covered were as follows:

• M. LeBellac (Univ. Nice): Thermal field theory in the real-time formalism
• K. Kajantie (Univ. Helsinki): Thermal field theory in the imaginary-time formalism
• P. Landshoff (Univ. Cambridge): The physics of thermal fields

The Summer School was sponsored by the Graduiertenkolleg Regensburg-Erlangen on "The Physics of Strong Interactions". Participation was free of charge. Its main purpose was to prepare the graduate students in this "graduate college" for the TFT98 workshop, but the Summer School was widely advertised and also drew many outside students as well as a number of participants of the TFT98 workshop the following week. Altogether 45 students from all over the world participated. Many thanks to the three lecturers for their excellent lecture series!
