Title:Kinetic accessibility of buried DNA sites in nucleosomes
View PDFAbstract: We study the dynamics of spontaneous conformational fluctuations in nucleosomes, where the DNA partially unwraps from the histone core to expose sites that are normally buried. Using simulations and theoretical analysis of a coarse-grained model, we determine the dependence of the timescales for site exposure and re-burial on the unwrapped DNA length. The interplay between the dynamics of barrier crossing in the DNA-histone contact potential and the internal polymer dynamics of the DNA introduces a length regime of flexibility-assisted barrier crossing.
