Title:On the relativistic theory of evolution of perturbations
View PDFAbstract: We examine the relativistic theory of evolution of perturbations of an Einstein-de Sitter Universe. The evolution equations are developed including quadratic terms in the derivatives of the perturbations and assuming simple expressions for the isotropic and anisotropic pressures, which include the case of an ideal gas or any kinetic model that might be constructed solving an Einstein-Vlasov problem for collisionless matter. Next we linealize the resulting evolution equation and recover, in different coordinates, the well known analysis done by Lifshift in 1946. We obtain the general solution, in the coordinate space, of the evolution equation for the scalar mode, and, in the case of spherical symmetry, we express this solution in terms of unidimensional integrals of the initial conditions: the initial values of the Newtonian potential and its first time derivative. We find that the contribution of the initial time derivative has been systematically forgotten. It is shown by means of examples that one can get inhomogeneities similar to a cluster of galaxies starting with very small density contrast. Finally, we have contemplated the validity of the linear approximation obtaining the first correction to the linealized solution due to the quadratic terms in the evolution equations. It is shown that reasonable thermal velocities at the present epoch make very small these corrections as compared with the linearized solution.
