Title:Diffusion, Fragmentation and Coagulation Processes: Analytical and Numerical Results
View PDFAbstract: We introduce systems which are governed by a combination of the common physical processes diffusion, fragmentation and coagulation. We formulate and solve dynamical rate equations for the size distribution of fragments. Initially, we consider processes where coagulation is absent. In this case we solve the rate equation exactly leading to distributions of Bessel type which falls off as ${\rm exp}(-{2/3}x^{3/2})$ for large $x$-values. Introducing the coagulation term, the full non-linear model is mapped exactly onto a linear Riccati equation. From solutions of this equation, we observe that the distribution now behaves as ${\rm exp}(-cx)$ for large $x$. The results are checked by numerical simulations and we find perfect agreement between the theoretical predictions and the numerical results.
