Title:Exploration of finite-range effects in Efimov physics using square-well potentials
View PDFAbstract:We study the Efimov effect for three identical bosons interacting via a pairwise square-well potential. Recent experiments and theoretical studies identified both universal and non-universal three-body effects related to the finite range of the interaction. The square-well potential represents an essentially simple local finite-range potential, characterized by a well-defined range and depth, and whose properties provide full analytical input for the three-body equations. We calculate three-body bound states, three-body recombination rates, and elastic and inelastic atom-dimer scattering properties. We provide a careful analysis of three distinct separable expansion methods that we use to solve the three-body equations in momentum space. Our calculations reveal the limitations of using separable two-body potentials on the three-body level. We show that a single-term separable approximation is insufficient to accurately compute the trimer states for energies larger than the finite-range energy even when the two-body T-matrix is highly separable in this energy regime. Also for deeper square-well potentials, we find that it is necessary to go beyond the separable approximation and to include higher partial-wave components of the off-shell two-body T-matrix in the three-body calculations. Additionally, we analyze the behavior of the Efimov states near the atom-dimer threshold and observe the formation of non-Efimovian trimer states as the potential depth is increased.
