Title:Transport coefficients in multi-component fluids from equilibrium molecular dynamics
View PDFAbstract:We introduce a method to estimate transport coefficients in multi-component fluids, based on the cepstral analysis of the conserved-flux time series generated by equilibrium molecular-dynamics simulations. The statistical error of the estimated coefficients can be easily and accurately estimated without resorting to any block analysis. The resulting technique is numerically stable, unbiased, and consistent, in that both the bias and the statistical error can be made arbitrarily small in the long-time limit. The new methodology is demonstrated with the calculation of thermal conductivity in the two paradagmatic cases of a molten salt (NaCl) and a molecular solution (water-ethanol).
