Title:Holographic renormalization in three dimensional no-boundary quantum cosmology
View PDFAbstract:Recent results of Hartle-Hawking wave function on asymptotic dS boundaries show non-normalizability, while the bulk origin of it is not exactly known. This paper addresses this problem by studying (Kerr-)dS$_3$ universes deformed by a minimally coupled scalar field. The various saddle-point contributions $\exp[i(\text{saddle-point action})]$ to the Hartle-Hawking wave function are computed using mini-superspace formalism. The saddle-point actions are first obtained in the spacetime bulks by direct computation, based on which holographic renormalization is performed, giving exact results of their boundary counterparts. It is found that the imaginary part of saddle-point actions, as functions of scalar deformation, are generally bounded in the bulk while can be divergent to $\pm \infty$ on the boundary. This provides a suggestive explanation for the non-normalizability of the boundary Hartle-Hawking wave function related to scalar divergence. For Kerr-dS$_3$ cosmology, some saddle-point actions have imaginary part diverging to $-\infty$ both in the bulk and on the boundary, when the boundary $T^2$ is stretched to infinitely long: a possible source for temperature divergence. Generalization to a model of boundary topology $S^3$ is briefly presented and similar property concerning scalar divergence is also observed.
