Title:Non-parametric likelihood based estimation of linear filters for point processes
View PDFAbstract:We consider models for multivariate point processes where the intensity is given non-parametrically in terms of functions in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space. The likelihood function involves a time integral and is consequently not given in terms of a finite number of kernel evaluations. We derive a representation of the gradient of the log-likelihood and provide two methods for practically computing approximations to the gradient by time discretization. We illustrate the methods by an application to neuron network modeling, and we investigate how the computational costs of the methods depend on the resolution of the time discretization. The methods are implemented and available in the R-package ppstat.
