Title:Decoherence Effects on Superpositions of Chiral States in a Chiral Molecule
View PDFAbstract:The superposition of chiral states of a chiral molecules, as delocalized quantum states of a many-particle system, can be used for the experimental investigations of the decoherence theory. In this regard, the great challenge is the quantification of robustness of these superpositions toward the environmental collapse effects. The methods so far proposed, using the decoherence theory, need the detail of internal states of the molecule, usually demanding heavy numerical calculations. Here, by using the linearized quantum Boltzmann equation, we provide a general and simple approach, of large applicability, which can be used to compute the dominant contribution to the decoherence rate due to the environmental scattering. We show that how our approach can reproduce the experimental observation of the change in the Ammonia inversion line due to pressure increase. Using the estimated value of the inevitable decoherence effect of the Cosmic Background Radiation, we also provide an explanation for the Hund's paradox.
