Title:Misunderstanding of ARPES experiments in literatures
View PDFAbstract: One takes the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) as a leading tool in the investigation of the high-Tc superconductors1, and there are a lot of works about its applications2-5, but what we observed in ARPES experiments contain very complex phenomena. Some might be divided into various incidents known in experiments. For example, the elastic scattering can be discriminated from the inelastic one, the photoelectron from the deeper core-levels is different from the one from the energy bands, and the electron state of the bulk may be distinguished from the one of the surface. However, the electron states within CuO2 planes must be observed through the photoelectrons, it seems no work has clarified how to distinguish the electron structures within the planes from the structures in vacuum. In fact, some authors argued in error that the electron spectral function in solid is directly observed by ARPES. This work deduces the formula of photoemission intensity with many-particle theory, and one may find some errors in literatures on the basis of the formula. This work also questions whether the electron structures within CuO2 planes of cuprate superconductors were suggested by error with ARPES experiments.
